Critical Reflection

Module Learning: I have definitely improved after taking this module. It is human nature to continually adapt and adapt to our situation. The goals I had set for myself at the start of the trimester were to get more comfortable speaking in front of big crowds and lessen the stammer and mispronunciation during my presentation. I would say that the goals I had set at the beginning were successfully achieved. I already had communication skills that were sufficient to get me through presentations and writing skills that were passable. I knew my weaknesses but couldn't find ways to fix them. However, through this module, I was exposed to various mindsets, frameworks, and techniques that helped to cultivate my skillset to another level. Being forced to write academic reports and research on topics that were very hard to obtain in-depth information demanded much more from me than I had expected. Nonetheless, I just had to change my mindset and expectations and work around what was require

Student Participation (Self-Assessment)

In my humble opinion, based on my own self-assessment, I think that I am deserving of the 'Excellent' grade. My reasons for supporting this proclamation are, that I am always punctual for class (besides the one time I was slightly late because I went to buy breakfast) and I have never missed a class as of writing. I have also never missed a deadline for assignments and always submit the best quality work that I can come up with. In class, I usually try to participate when questions are being asked and I usually take the lead during group discussion portions of the class. When someone is speaking in front of the class or to the class I always try my best to respectfully listen to what he has to say or try not to disrupt the flow.

Summary Read and Response Draft #3

V-22 Osprey VTOL A V22-Osprey is an aircraft that is a mix between an airplane and a helicopter. Therefore it is considered a VTOL(Vertical Take-off and Landing)as it uses a tiltrotor propulsion engine system that combines helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft capabilities. Based on McCormick's work on VTOL technologies (McCormick, 1967, Pg 347-366 ) , the propulsion system functions follow the tiltwing concept as it uses two large tiltrotors mounted on the wings which consist of multiple engines to takeoff ( McCormick, 1967, Pg 347-366 ) .  As mentioned by the related article ( Zhou, Zhao & Liu, 2019) , the tiltrotor has rotational capabilities that allow the VTOL to perform vertical takeoff/land like a helicopter. It can also perform a conventional forward flight like an airplane. However, an unfavorable comparison to the harrier, also a VTOL but of a different concept, that uses a turbofan engine is that the aircraft is affected by dead weight from the Osprey Tilting apparatus

Summary Read And Response Draft 1

Thesis Statement The V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor propulsion system allows it to be more versatile, more efficient in take-off and is safer to land than the Harrier turbofan engine despite the Harrier being faster and cheaper. Support #1(Versatile) The V-22 is suitable to partake in various operations such as rescue ops, search and rescue, and aerial refueling,  as compared to the Harrier VTOL as its tilt-rotor engine makes it more versatile Support #2(Efficient)  Fly-by-wire controls are to allow for less input from the pilot thus reducing the pilot's workload by making controls easier and more efficient CounterArgument ( Cost & Simplicity)  One of the downsides of the V22-Osprey is the cost of manufacture and maintenance. Conclusion The enhanced features of the V-22 Osprey VTOL will help the military in combat-focused missions like the Harrier VTOL jet but unlike the harrier, it can also help with non-combat missions that the harrier is not able to partake in. Initial Research Pathway Of V-22 Osprey

Luqman was scrolling through reddit when he came across a post showing a video about the Ukraine using UAV VTOLs(Vertical Takeoff and Landing) in war for reconnaissance. That got him curious about how VTOLs actually worked and what purpose they served. The team then used chatGPT for a general search to get basic information about the Osprey then used google and google scholar search for another 5 websites for more detailed information. We then used chatGPT to source for easy to understand information about the propulsion system of the V22 Osprey. Read articles, documents and research papers to build our summary.

Osprey V22 VTOL Propulsion System Draft 1 (w thesis statement)

A V22-Osprey uses a tiltrotor propulsion engine system which combines the capabilities of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The propulsion system functions follows the tilt wing concept as it uses two large tiltrotors mounted on the wings which consist of multiple engines to takeoff.  The tiltrotor has rotational capabilities that allow the VTOL to perform vertical takeoff/land like a helicopter. Still, at the same time, it can also perform a conventional forward flight like an airplane. But a negative comparison to the harrier (a VTOL but with a different engine) turbofan engine is that the aircraft is affected by dead weight that comes from the Osprey Tilting apparatus. The way the tiltrotor works during the takeoff/landing phase, the rotors will generate lift when doing a vertical takeoff while during a forward flight, they will act as propellers which helps generate high lift and keeps the fuselage horizontal. This hybrid functionality allows the Osprey to switch between hover a
